Preventive and Routine Care

  • Routine annual check ups

  • ACOG Recommendations:
    • Pap smears to detect cervical cancer: yearly (starting no later than 21 yrs).
    • Mammography to detect breast cancer: every 1-2 years beginning at age 40; yearly beginning at age 50.
    • Colonoscopy to detect colon cancer: every 10 years from age 50.
    • Lipid profile assessment every 5 years from age 45.
    • Diabetes and thyroid screening every 3-5 years from age 45. 
    • Bone density screenings for osteoporosis: age 50; or earlier based on risk factors.
    • Pneumovax immunization to prevent pneumonia: Over age 65.

 

Bone Density Evaluation

  1. Osteoporosis is a skeletal disease characterized by a deterioration of bone tissue resulting in an increased risk of fractures.  Osteoporosis is a preventable complication of menopause.
    1. ~ 15% of U.S. women aged 50 years and older have osteoporosis.  
    2. 45% have osteopenia (low bone mass).   
  2. Risk factors for Osteoporosis include being female, caucasian, advanced age, previous bone fracture, a small thin frame, a family history of osteoporosis, early menopause, low calcium diet, alcohol and tobacco use.
  3. We offer in office Bone Density screenings.

Mammography:

  • Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among U.S. women. 
    • Lifetime risk: 12.5% or 1 in 8. 
  • Early detection of breast cancer has been shown to decrease the mortality rate. 
  • American Cancer Society Breast screening guidelines:  
    • Every year from the age of 40. 
  • We offer in office Mammography by a mammography certified Radiology technician, read by board certified Radiologists


3D-4D Ultrasound

  • Ultrasonography is a safe, non-invasive use of sound waves for diagnostic purposes.
  • We use this valuable tool to evaluate pregnancies as well as to evaluate abdominal and pelvic organs.
  • We also offer 3D-4D keepsake ultrasound packages for our expectant mothers – please inquire at the office for details.
  • All ultrasounds are performed by a certified ultrasound technician.

Urodynamics / Incontinence Evaluation:

  • Urinary incontinence can result from multiple factors.  Common causes include:
    • Childbirth, medication side effects, & urinary tract infection.
    • Birth defects, bladder muscle weakness.
    • Nerve disorders; brain or spinal cord injury.
    • Pelvic floor muscle weakness; vaginal prolapse.
  • If you have a problem with urinary leakage, your doctor may be able to help. One of the tools  that helps determine the cause of your symptoms is urodynamic testing.
  • Urodynamics is a study that assesses how the bladder and urethra are performing their job of storing and releasing urine. 
  • We offer in office Urodynamics testing.
