At Women’s Health of Augusta we pride ourselves on being the community leader in minimally invasive surgery such as laparoscopic assisted hysterectomies and robotic surgeries.  All of our doctors are experts in procedures such as uterine ablations (Novasure procedure) for heavy periods and laparoscopies for pelvic pain.  We also offer in office minor procedures such as ablations, sterilizations, and treatment of abnormal Pap smears  which can save you both time and money.

Minimally Invasive gynecologic surgery provides comprehensive care for women with conditions including uterine fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse, cervical incompetence and ovarian cysts.

We strive to provide a safer and more effective alternative to traditional open surgery when indicated by performing many of our procedures via laparoscopy or hysteroscopy.  In fact, many women have been able to avoid major abdominal surgery by having a minimally invasive procedure that takes care of their problem.

Laparoscopy

At Women’s Health of Augusta we have been providing minimally invasive surgery options for our patients since our foundation.  We were among the area’s first to incorporate Laparoscopy (the use of cameras and surgical instruments through very small incisions in the abdomen) into our practice for diagnostic and operative surgeries, including hysterectomy.   We are very proud of our practice reputation for performing most surgeries in a minimally invasive manner, and currently perform over 75% of our hysterectomies either vaginally or laparoscopically.

Recent advances with technology have increased the minimally invasive options we can now provide our patients.  The da Vinci Robotic system uses state-of-the-art technology, requires only a few tiny incisions, and enables your doctor to perform a minimally  invasive hysterectomy even for complex conditions — with enhanced vision,  precision, dexterity and control.  We have been performing da Vinci surgeries since 2008, the year it became available in the Southeast.

Please check the da Vinci home website and call today to schedule an appointment to see if you are a candidate for surgery.

Endometrial Ablations

Endometrial Ablations. Augusta, GA. LaparoscopyAnother minimally invasive surgery provided by Women's Health of Augusta is endometrial ablation.  Each month during a woman’s period (menses), the inner lining (endometrium) of the uterus is shed.  This varies from light and occasional to extremely heavy with significant cramping and discomfort.   There are many options to deal with controlling heavy bleeding.

For women who have completed their childbearing, one effective approach is to perform an endometrial ablation.  This is an incision-less, quick, outpatient procedure whereby the inner lining (endometrium) of the uterus is destroyed.  One of the most popular methods of accomplishing this is the Novasure endometrial ablation.  All of our physicians currently perform this popular service in our office.

In many instances endometriosis can be both diagnosed and treated by laparoscopy.
This one-time five-minute procedure is designed to remove just the uterine lining—the endometrium—which is the part of your body that causes heavy bleeding. No incisions are required, leaving your uterus intact. For 9 out of 10 women, their heavy periods are dramatically reduced or stopped altogether.
It is not recommended to get pregnant after. It is not considered as a birth control method.
Usually there is minimal pain and bleeding. Most women are back to their normal activities the next day.
